This fine quality pewter tankard features a double glass bottom with a genuine shilling coin inserted between both panes. It evokes the 'King's shilling' legend whereby press gangs or other unscrupulous recruiters would drop a shilling coin into the beer tankard of an unsuspecting target; after draining their drink and finding the coin they were deemed to have 'accepted the King's shilling' and so were conscripted to join the army. It is claimed that glass bottomed tankards became popular so that drinkers could see whether a coin had been dropped into their beer. These 'Kings shilling' tankards are handcrafted in England and have a one pint capacity. They have a pewter touchmark and have a brightly polished finish inside and out. They are ideal to personalise with engraving on the plain body, and are offered here with text and/or logo engraving options.
Tankards are dispatched in a black card box as standard, however a deluxe hinged wooden presentation box is available as an optional extra.Product Code: WP_B999KS
