Silver Police Whistle
The Acme police whistle was originally designed in the 1880s for the Metropolitan Police in London and since then has been issued to over 120 police forces worldwide. According to newspaper reports at the time, the whistle was developed by Joseph Hudson of Birmingham in reply to a competition to provide a new communication tool for the capital's police. A test on Clapham Common found that the whistle could be heard over one mile away, and so it was commissioned for use. The version available here is the same original design, manufactuered by Joseph Hudson under the name Acme, and is supplied complete with a certificate of authenticity. It has a fine quality silver plated finish, unlike cheaper nickel plated versions. The body of the whistle can be engraved to create a personalised gift or award, and they are offered here with free text and logo engraving.
